Report

Homelessness in Denmark 2015

National survey

Share
This report contains the results of the fifth national survey of homelessness in Denmark, conducted in 2015. The survey has been conducted every other year since 2007.
This survey shows that there were 6,138 homeless people in Denmark in week 6 (2-8 February) in 2015. This is 318 more than in the previous survey in 2013, corresponding to an increase of 5%. Compared to the 2009 figure of 4,998, there has been an increase of 23%.
The number of homeless has increased significantly for the 25-29-year-old age group, with 797 homeless registered in 2015 for this age group, compared with 616 in 2013.
About one-half of the homeless have been homeless for less than a year, showing a continued influx of newly homeless people into the statistics.
The report also shows that less than one-third of the homeless are on a waiting list for their own dwelling or for a sheltered housing facility, and that only one-quarter of the homeless have a municipal action plan.
The survey was commissioned and financed by the National Board of Social Services.
