MATURE – Meeting the challenges in population ageing through innovation and cultural adaptation of welfare society

Share
To successfully respond to the challenges posed by demographic change, societies need to view welfare services for older adults in completely new ways. MATURE is set to facilitate this societal paradigm shift and to have a potentially significant impact on the political strategies for the care and welfare services for older adults. The project investigates the changing needs of older adults and provides empirically and theoretically based scenarios for older adults as recipients, users, providers and developers of future care and welfare services. MATURE also produces evidence on the desirability, feasibility and viability of concrete solutions by evaluating the following innovative interventions: 1) A sharing economy type of social innovation for exchanging informal care and services, co-produced and used by older adults 2) Digital sentinel tool identifying older adults at risk of health deterioration and releasing timely telehealth intervention to prevent overt disease and acute hospital admission 3) Welfare technology used in nursing homes and its implications for frail older adults’ quality of life. The project produces different scenarios based on the likely future development in user needs, care and welfare innovations and their effects. Moreover, MATURE produces concrete recommendations for how care and welfare for older people should be organized. Finally, MATURE produces a blueprint of practitioner competencies relevant for improving care and service provision and corresponding curricula and educational designs. MATURE will thus benefit not only society at large but also specific actors in municipal practice, in the care sector, and in the related scientific communities
