Children witnessing domestic violence - Human and economic consequences

In the literature, more and more awareness is devoted to children witnessing domestic violence. These children are indirect victims of domestic violence and can exhibit the same symptoms, as if they were physically abused. They often have emotional, behavioral or social problems, including school problems. While in Denmark the cost of the violence against women has been estimated to be ½ billion per year, no study has investigated the related cost for the children witnessing domestic violence. This project investigates the short and long-term consequences of family violence on children. To evaluate the economic impact of this violence on children, this project will study comparable groups of children exposed and unexposed to domestic violence. The project uses register data.
